Bulgaria's Rhodope Mountains

Glorious Guided Walking in a Land of Surprises

Bulgaria isn't the first place you think of when planning a walking holiday on mainland Europe. But to those who know, it offers a fantastic chance to enjoy wonderful mountain scenery and delightful unspoiled villages in a country that was once at the heart of European civilisation - and all at prices that could never be matched at the more well trodden European destinations.

Unusually for Eurotracks, this is a guided holiday. The routes here are not well waymarked, and you will benefit greatly from the local knowledge of your experienced English speaking local guide.

The Rhodope mountains are in the south of Bulgaria, spanning the frontier with northern Greece, and offer a great mix of majestic mountain tops, wooded uplands and deep river gorges. Your overnight stops are in mountain villages and small towns with a long cultural heritage, and your expert guide will help you get the best from all of this. The walking is adventurous, with ascents on most days of about 400m - 500m (1,200 feet to 1,500 feet). You should expect to be out walking for about 5 hours to 7 hours on most of the days.
